June
1999 -- (Taipei, Taiwan) -- The Digital Still Camera (DSC) introduced
by Mustek System Inc. on March has electrified widespread discussions
and interests in the industry and the user community. It is not
difficult for the channel distributors to uncover that Mustek has
incorporated USB interface into its first generation DSC since 1997
long before this year's CeBit show, where USB was broadly touted
for the first time and made famed. Since then, through continued
technology innovation and product enhancement, Mustek has released
two additional models -- VDC-300 and MDC-800 -- which empower the
consumers to further benefit from the best cost-performance in the
market.
Designed primarily for the individual use, VDC-300, a basic point-and-shoot
DSC, offers 350K (640x480, VGA) pixels resolution. With its built-in
2MB memory, VDC-300 is capable of taking from 6 shots in "High"
to 40 in "Econ" mode. The standard CompactFlash TM card slot supports
up to 32MB of storage per card entitling users the freedom to easily
carry and swap on-demand.
The USB and the RS-232 interfaces provide an efficient way of transferring
the captured image to PC/Notebook and vice versa (i.e., back to
camera memory). With USB, VDC-300 can be transformed into a "PC
Camera" for video conferencing or video-mail creating and a "Digital
Video Camera" when the video-out cable is connected to a TV. In
addition to the AC Adapter, the design of using 4 alkaline batteries
allows the users to purchase them anywhere and at a much lower cost.
The intuitive user interface of VDC-300 easily removes any learning
curve and convinces the users to instantly enjoy it.
For users that frequently prepare reports, presentation, and Web
design, MDC-800 is definitely a perfect choice -- a 3-in-1, multi-function
digital/PC/video camera. As a photo-quality, point-and-shoot digital
camera, MDC-800 offers more flexibility and functionality to satisfy
all personal and business needs. With 1.8-inch image LCD monitor
for shot previewing, intuitive On-Screen-Display, 4 MB of built-in
memory, 850K (1024x768 XGA) pixels resolution, MDC-800 is a superb
extension to VDC-300 with more -- white balance, self-timer, red-eye
reduction, continuous shot, speedy file compression, optional CompactFlash
TM, and user-friendly software applications. Experience it and you
will immediately recognize the attractions. According to the forecast
of Taiwan MIC, the worldwide demand for DSC grew from less than
100k units in 1994, 3.38m in 1998, to 15.6m in 2001. Mustek System
Inc., evolved from the scanner business to now a full product line
of DSC, pledges to become "Your Total Imaging Solution Partner."
Due to the multi-characteristics of the product positioning, the
manufacturers of DSC in Taiwan consist of the conventional camera
and the PC peripheral manufacturers.
According to Angel Ku, director of Imaging Business Division of
Mustek, "Through continued product innovation and accumulated market
experience from the imaging product arena, Mustek will continue
to deliver products that meet various market demands and applications
that digital imaging technology has to offer."
