Using Plug-ins/ISIS
with Third Party Applications
Mustek scanners come
with Color It! for scanning images and TextBridge for performing
optical character recognition (OCR). While this is enough to cover
most of your scanning needs, you may want to use other programs that
were designed to interact with a scanner such as Adobe PhotoShop
Most software products will have
instructions for configuring them with a scanner. Usually this will
involve installing ISIS drivers or Plug-ins.
Choosing the ISIS Driver
ISIS (Image and Scanner Interface
Standard) is a driver that is installed as a Chooser extension. Most
programs that use an ISIS driver will require you to access it from
the Chooser the first time you use the program. Unless noted
otherwise in the software instructions, follow these steps to use
the ISIS driver.
- Launch the program that uses an
ISIS driver.
- With the program running, click on
the Apple menu and select the Chooser.
- On the Chooser, locate the Mustek
ISIS icon. The icon will look like the ones below and have the
name "Mustek" or the model of the scanner as its name.
- Double-click the Mustek ISIS icon
and close the Chooser.
- Usually the host program will have
a Select Source command that you must choose that will also show
the name of the Mustek ISIS driver you had just chosen. After
that, the program will now be linked with the ISIS driver and
should allow scanning functions.
Placing a Plug-in
Plug-ins are versatile drivers that
appear as the examples below. They can look like simple documents or
have a nice plug-ins logo depending on your system configuration.
In order to be used, a plug-in needs
to be within a special folder within the host applications folder.
Usually this folder is called Plug-ins, and you should check the
applications' manual for the name of the proper folder. Below are a
list of some of the most well known applications and the plug-in
placement.
Adobe
PhotoShop 4.0(For Power PC Macs): Place the Mustek plug-in
into the Plug-ins folder, located in the main PhotoShop
4.0 folder on the hard disk.
Adobe
PhotoShop 4.0(non-Power PC Macs): Place the Mustek
plug-in into the main PhotoShop 4.0 folder located on the
hard disk.
All other
Adobe PhotoShop Versions: Place the Mustek plug-in into the
main PhotoShop folder located on the hard disk.
Adobe Photo
Deluxe: Place the Mustek plug-in into the Plug-ins
folder located in the main Photo Deluxe folder on
the hard disk.
