Wallpaper

The background image of the Windows desktop.

Web Page

A document written in a special language or languages (HTML, Java, etc.) that can contain text, images, animations, sounds and specialized interactive forms and is viewed on-line as part of a web site. A web page is a single screen of information, although it may go on indefinitely, as the viewer of a web page may need to scroll up/down or left/right to see all of the page contents. A web site may contain hundreds of web pages.

Web Site

A collected group of web pages, generally on the same or related subjects, linked together through one main "home page" on the World Wide Web. Web sites can be made by individuals, or by companies. www.mustek.com is Mustek’s web site.

Wildcard

A symbol that can stand for any set of characters. Generally, the asterisk (*) is a wildcard, used in file searches such as "*.exe" which means to search for all files with ".exe" at the end. See * [asterisk].

Windows

1. In a GUI, the small dialog boxes of information that can pop-up or cascade across a screen. 2. General name for Microsoft Windows operating system. See dialog box and Microsoft Windows.

WordPad

A basic word-processing program supplied with Microsoft Windows.

WYSIWYG

Acronym for What You See Is What You Get. A printing standard designed to ensure that the fonts and characters on the screen would be identical in the final printout.
