1-bit Image

A bitmap whose pixels have only one bit of information and are either black or white. See halftone or line art.

16-bit Color

Video display setting capable of 65,536 colors.

24-bit Color

1. For video, RGB color setting capable of 16 million colors. 2. In scanners, a rating for a scanner that can produce 24-bit color. Also known as True Color. See bit depth.

256 Colors

Video display capable of 256 colors.

25-pin Connector

Cable connector consisting of two rows of pins, 13 on top, 12 on the bottom. Mustek scanner cables use 25-pin connectors. Also known as a DB-25 connector.

30-bit Color

Rating for a scanner capable of recognizing up to one billion colors. Since this is higher than computer video display standards, the colors are averaged and optimized to 24-bit before being transferred. See bit depth.

36-bit Color

Rating for a scanner capable of recognizing up to 68.7 billion colors. Since this is higher than computer video display standards, the colors are averaged and optimized to 24-bit before being transferred. See bit depth.

50-pin Centronics Connector

Cable connector consisting of two rows of 25 pins molded into a large plastic connector. The receptacle has a large center slot into which the connector fits. Some Mustek scanners use 50-pin Centronics connectors as a second SCSI port.

50-pin High-Density (SCSI-2) Connector

Small 50-pin cable connector consisting of two rows of 25 pins. Some Mustek scanners use 50-pin High-Density (SCSI-2) connectors as a second SCSI port.

8-bit Grayscale

Display mode capable of 256 shades of gray.
