Hard Disk/Hard Drive
|
A fixed storage device in a
computer system. A hard drive consists of a group of
inflexible platters coated with a magnetic media material
where data can be written or read. The platters spin very
quickly within the sealed case of the drive and can store
much more than a floppy disk. They are typically 1 GB to 10
GB in size. Modern computer systems have at least one hard
drive where the operating system is located that serves as a
boot-drive to load the computer functions.

Hardware Resolution
|
In a flatbed scanner,
resolution is expressed in horizontal (left to right) and
vertical (up and down) values, 300 x 600 for example. Any
scan up to the maximum value of the horizontal resolution is
handled completely by the optical sensor of the scanner.
Scans above the horizontal rating rely on the micro-stepping
motor to make extra samples of the image. The scanner
hardware then uses an averaging algorithm to create the
higher resolution image.
