Clicking the Scan icon
brings up the following options:

- Select the Paper Size
from the pull-down menu. The choices include
A4, Letter, and, depending on the scanner
model, Legal or A3. There is also an option
called Auto. This will make the scanner do a
prescan first and then crop to the edge of
the image so that only it is scanned.
- Choose the Scan Mode
from the pull-down menu. The image can be in
Gray, Color or Text (Line Art) mode.
- Choose a Resolution.
The menu gives the options for Normal, Fine
or Superfine. Normal is generally the best
choice for the majority of images.
- The Browse button
found at the bottom of the Scan options
allows the user to select the image editing
program where the image will be displayed
after the scan. It defaults to the iPhoto
Plus program that is included with the
scanner. To change the setting, click on the
Browse button and then browse through the
directory folders until the alternative
image editing programs executable file is
found, such as PP60.EXE for Picture
Publisher. The executable file is the file
that runs a program, and if this and
maneuvering through folders is unfamiliar,
then it is recommended to stick with the
default setting of iPhoto Plus.
- Once all of the
settings are chosen, click on the Scan
Command icon on the right-hand side. The
Scan Dialog box will disappear and a small
progress indicator will appear. After the
scan has completed, the selected image
editing program, such as iPhoto Plus, will
launch and the finished image will be
displayed. We can then use the program to
manipulate, print or save our image.
